In the last 24 hours, the Public Security Police (PSP) have reported 18 incidents of fire involving urban street furniture, primarily rubbish bins, across the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML), including municipalities such as Almada, Amadora, Seixal, Setúbal, and Sintra. Additionally, a recycling bin was set alight in Leiria. The PSP also noted that two police vehicles were stoned during this period.
Contrary to earlier reports, the police did not mention any new arrests or identifications in connection with these incidents.
The disturbances, which have followed the fatal police shooting of a man early on Monday morning, also included a stoned bus, the explosion of two firecrackers, a pyrotechnic device being thrown at a PSP station, and other acts of vandalism, such as graffiti.
The PSP has issued a strong reminder that any social media content inciting hatred or violence is considered a criminal offense and is being collected for potential legal action. These materials will be forwarded to the Public Ministry for further investigation and to hold accountable those responsible for these illegal actions.
