AIMA has announced that it will start providing a digital document confirming the approval of applications for the granting or renewal of residence permits. According to DN Brasil, this document will be available to applicants whose requests have already been approved but who are still waiting to receive their physical residence card.
The initiative is intended to help reduce waiting times, an issue that has been one of the most frequent complaints from applicants dealing with AIMA. The agency has acknowledged that a number of residence permit cards sent by CTT are returned due to problems with delivery, contributing to delays.
As reported by DN Brasil, the new document functions as an online declaration for individuals who already know that their residence application has been approved. AIMA explained that this measure is designed to provide greater reassurance and legal certainty for applicants while they await the arrival of their residence permit card.
However, the agency emphasized that this declaration does not replace the residence permit in situations where the physical document is legally required.
Applicants who wish to obtain the declaration must do so online through the official AIMA portal at services.aima.gov.pt, as it is not available through in-person services.
