Australia has introduced the Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV), creating new migration opportunities for Pacific Islanders and Timor-Leste nationals by granting up to 3,000 individuals a direct pathway to permanent residency in 2025. This initiative is designed to strengthen connections with the Pacific region while providing long-term residence, employment opportunities, and access to essential government services.
The program operates through a ballot system, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process. Eligible applicants will enter a draw for the opportunity to apply, offering an equitable approach to migration.
The Australian government has outlined the allocation of PEV slots for 2025, with Papua New Guinea receiving the largest share at 1,515 places, followed by Fiji, Timor-Leste, and Tonga, each allocated 300 places. Other Pacific nations are also set to benefit, reflecting Australia’s commitment to fostering regional partnerships.
