During a gathering of lawyers, Justice Afridi emphasized that legal proceedings must always prioritize protecting the interests of the plaintiffs.
“My message is straightforward: we are here to serve the legal needs of the people,” said Justice Afridi, highlighting the critical role both judges and lawyers play in defending the rights of those seeking justice.
He stressed the importance of giving due consideration to the concerns of the plaintiff, adding that lawyers have a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the judicial system.
“The plaintiff is an essential part of this system; their concerns must be addressed,” he continued. The Chief Justice also acknowledged the concerns within the legal community, reassuring lawyers that he was dedicated to resolving their issues.
“I am committed to addressing your concerns, and I will fulfill that commitment,” he stated. Justice Afridi also underscored the importance of respecting the judiciary, cautioning against excessive praise of judges.
“Do not shower judges with applause, as complacency can tarnish an individual,” he warned, emphasizing that unnecessary adulation could diminish the professionalism and effectiveness of the judiciary.
Protest Over Journalist’s Murder
Upon arriving in Ghotki, Chief Justice Afridi encountered a group of protesters, including the children of slain journalist Nasrullah Gadani. They staged a demonstration along his route, demanding that the chief justice take suo motu notice of Gadani’s murder.
The protesters accused the police of failing to arrest those responsible for the crime, with some even implicating prominent political figures, such as PPP MNA Khalid Lund and his son, in the incident. As the protesters gathered on the national highway, the police intervened to prevent them from blocking the road, but allowed them to voice their concerns.
The demonstration reflected widespread public frustration with the slow progress in the investigation into Gadani’s death. “The police are not arresting the murderers. We urge the chief justice to take suo motu notice of this case,” one protester said.
