After the conclusion of the recent European fixtures, Portugal fell behind the Netherlands in the UEFA coefficient standings. However, Portuguese teams’ strong performances in the 2024–2025 season have brought them closer to England.

In this round, Benfica and FC Porto both lost, Sporting de Braga drew, while Sporting Lisbon and Vitória de Guimarães secured victories. As a result, Portugal earned five points during the European week—two points for each win and one point for the draw. These five points were divided among the five Portuguese teams competing in European tournaments, helping Portugal increase its UEFA coefficient from 54,216 to 55,216 points.
In contrast, Dutch teams had a mixed round, with three wins, one draw, and one loss. AZ Alkmaar and Ajax triumphed in the Europa League, Twente drew, PSV won in the Champions League, and Feyenoord lost. The Netherlands earned seven points—two points for each of the three wins and one point for the draw—which, when distributed among the six Dutch teams in European competition, added 1,166 points to their coefficient. As a result, the Netherlands’ total increased from 57,400 to 58,566 points.
At the start of the round, the gap between Portugal and the Netherlands was 3,184 points, but it has now widened to 3,350 points. Despite this, Portugal remains in contention for an additional European slot this season and has closed the gap with England, even as the Netherlands extended its lead over Portugal in the five-year UEFA ranking.
England, with victories for Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, saw their total rise from 8,571 to 9,428 points. Meanwhile, Portugal moved from 8,200 to 9,200 points, thanks to the four points earned from the wins of Sporting Lisbon and Vitória de Guimarães, as well as Braga’s draw. Portugal now has a total of 46 points in the season coefficient.
England’s coefficient grew by 857 points as a result of the three English clubs’ wins. On the other hand, Portugal gained 1,000 points this matchday. Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Arsenal all suffered defeats, meaning the English earned only six points from their three wins, equivalent to 857 points when divided among their seven teams in European competitions.
In summary, Portugal now trails England by just 228 points, a significant improvement from the 371-point gap at the start of the round.
