As part of efforts to address labor market demands, Spain will modify its immigration policy by extending the job seeker visa’s validity period next year.
According to the reformed Immigration Law, Spanish authorities have confirmed that the job seeker visa will be extended from three to twelve months, as reported by Schengen.News.
While the exact date for the new rules remains unclear, the extension of the visa duration will significantly benefit foreign nationals wishing to find a job and settle in Spain permanently.
The job seeker visa allows foreign nationals to enter Spain for employment search purposes. After securing a job, they must complete necessary procedures to legally remain in Spain.
Additionally, Spain will introduce other immigration changes in May 2025, focusing on regularizing undocumented migrants.
Spain’s Plan to Regularize Migrants: As part of the Immigration Law reform, Spain plans to regularize 300,000 irregular migrants annually until 2027. This initiative will enable approximately 900,000 migrants to obtain legal residence and work rights within three years.
Spain’s Minister of Migration, Elma Saiz, emphasized that these reforms aim to address labor shortages, as the country faces a demand for about 250,000 workers to sustain its economy. The government’s decision to regularize migrants already within its borders is aimed at tapping into this potential workforce rather than recruiting new foreign workers.
Under the new rules, set to take effect in May 2025, migrants will be able to apply for residence and work permits through a more streamlined process, which will open opportunities based on employment, training, and family connections.
