Swiggy has introduced a new savings feature called Maxxsaver on its quick commerce platform, Instamart, aimed at offering automatic discounts to customers when their purchase total reaches ₹999 or more.
This launch follows closely behind a similar initiative by rival Zepto, which rolled out its Super Saver tool. However, Swiggy’s Maxxsaver differentiates itself by being embedded directly into the app, applying the discount automatically at checkout once the cart reaches the specified threshold, unlike Zepto’s opt-in system.
With competition in the quick commerce space heating up, many platforms are now focusing on increasing basket sizes rather than just encouraging frequent, low-value purchases. Swiggy, like others, is placing a greater emphasis on bulk buying, with discounts designed to incentivize larger purchases, shifting the platform’s role from being just a supplement for small buys to a more comprehensive destination for groceries and essentials.
While Swiggy and Zepto are offering significant savings and loyalty programs, Blinkit remains the only major player that doesn’t offer major discounts or loyalty initiatives. Blinkit still charges delivery fees on each order, which can vary based on location and distance, though it is focusing on broadening its product assortment, including offering fast deliveries of products like air conditioners in key metro areas.
Swiggy, in contrast, is concentrating on geographic expansion and the development of larger fulfillment centers, known as megapods, which can store up to 50,000 SKUs, significantly more than traditional dark stores that typically hold around 20,000. Instamart has already expanded to 100 cities, and the Maxxsaver feature will be available across all of them.
Amitesh Jha, CEO of Swiggy Instamart, emphasized that the goal of Maxxsaver is to enhance the platform’s reputation as both affordable and convenient, with the aim of offering better pricing through larger orders.
