With the start of college just weeks away, many Indian students planning to study abroad are still unable to schedule their F1 visa appointments, even though the official pause on bookings was lifted some time ago. The delay has left thousands in limbo, creating stress and uncertainty as key deadlines approach.
One student, whose program begins on August 20, shared the growing anxiety around the situation. “I still haven’t managed to book my visa appointment. I haven’t bought my flight tickets or prepared anything yet. My deadline to submit documents is coming up in early August, and I honestly feel lost.”
As appointment slots remain scarce, students are struggling with the emotional weight of not knowing whether they’ll be able to attend their programs on time. Many have already paid tuition or other non-refundable fees, adding financial pressure to an already tense situation. “What’s disheartening is that everyone knows how important this time is for students, and yet nothing seems to be moving. The silence and inaction are difficult to process,” said another student.
Parents and students have turned to social media and community forums to ask for updates and plead for faster processing. Many are hoping for last-minute changes that could open up more slots before it’s too late.
Online, others facing similar issues have chimed in. One person mentioned that appointment delays seem to be affecting multiple countries, with some only showing available dates in September or later. Others pointed out the confusion caused by the sudden pause during peak season, followed by the denial of expedited requests. “It’s no surprise people are trying to expedite—everything got backed up,” said one user. Another expressed frustration at the lack of communication from officials. Some noted that countries like Nigeria have opened more slots recently, while India remains one of the few places where early appointments are still hard to find.
