President Donald Trump introduced the first “gold card,” a residency permit priced at $5 million each, during a recent flight aboard Air Force One. Holding up a prototype featuring his image and the inscription “The Trump Card,” the president told reporters that the special visa would likely be available within two weeks.
“I’m the first buyer,” Trump remarked, calling the development “pretty exciting.” The new card, a more expensive version of the traditional green card, is designed to attract job creators to the US and potentially help reduce the national deficit, according to the president. Trump, who has focused on deporting millions of undocumented migrants during his second term, stated that the card would provide a path to US citizenship.
Earlier in February, Trump suggested that his administration aimed to sell as many as a million of these cards and did not exclude the possibility that Russian oligarchs could qualify for them.
