GUJRANWALA:
Police claimed to have arrested a couple involved in selling drugs online and seized 105 kilogrammes of narcotics.
A significant drug operation was disrupted by the police, led by SSP Operations Dr. Raza Tanveer, SSP Investigation Rizwan Tariq, and SP Civil Lines Farhat Abbas, who shared details at a press conference.
The Arup police intercepted a substantial drug shipment that was being sold via various online platforms and social media. The individuals involved, identified as Yusuf and Faheema Bibi, had been managing this illegal trade by using secret codes to receive orders from smaller dealers throughout the area. Their operation included the distribution of methamphetamine (“ice”), hashish, heroin, and opium.
Following a tip-off, law enforcement tracked the couple while they were transporting a large consignment in a vehicle equipped with hidden compartments. During a subsequent raid, authorities recovered 105 kilograms of drugs, comprising 5.7 kilograms of meth, over 23 kilograms of hashish, 28 kilograms of heroin, and 47.5 kilograms of opium. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs exceeds Rs 70 million.
SSP Operations Dr. Tanveer and SSP Investigation Tariq noted that the couple had been engaged in drug trafficking since 2012. Despite being arrested in 2018 and again in 2021, they returned to their illegal activities shortly after their release from prison. Their extensive network supplied drugs to various dealers and primarily targeted schools and colleges, posing a serious risk to young students.
The officers explained that the couple sourced drugs from tribal areas and relied on unsuspecting motorcycle riders for distribution, who often were unaware of the nature of their deliveries.
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the couple’s phone records to identify and apprehend their contacts and collaborators. The police highlighted their ongoing crackdown on drug dealers over the past month, resulting in numerous arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics.
In addition to enforcement efforts, rehabilitation programs for drug addicts in the region have been launched. Authorities emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
