
In a recent interview with Diário de Notícias to mark the newspaper’s 160th anniversary, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro discussed the country’s security issues. He admitted feeling uneasy when seeing images of Martim Moniz but emphasized that no disrespect was intended.
Montenegro expressed concern over a potential rise in serious and violent crime, although he mentioned he had not yet received the provisional data for 2024. He also stated that he found it unsettling to see citizens being forcibly searched by the police, describing it as an “anomalous situation” that does not reflect normal everyday life. Despite his discomfort, the Prime Minister supported the police’s actions.
