Between January and April, Lisbon airport handled around 10.7 million passengers, accounting for more than half of all air traffic in the country and showing a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Porto airport followed with approximately 4.7 million passengers, making up 23% of the national total and reflecting a 4.5% rise. Faro airport also saw notable growth, with an 8.1% increase, reaching 2.3 million passengers.
The United Kingdom remained the leading country for both arrivals and departures, with a 2.5% increase in passengers arriving and a 1.8% increase in those departing compared to the previous year. France moved to second position, despite showing no significant variation in passenger numbers. Spain, Germany, and Italy followed in the ranking of key international routes.
There was a slight overall increase of 0.7% in cargo and mail movement through national airports, a modest change in contrast to the 13.8% rise recorded in 2024. Lisbon was the primary hub for cargo, handling 78.4% of the total volume, equivalent to nearly 63,930 tonnes, and showing a 2.3% increase from the same time last year. In contrast, the other airports experienced a 4.6% decrease in cargo and mail activity.
Looking specifically at April, national airports processed about 6.5 million passengers and 21,400 tonnes of cargo and mail, representing increases of 8.1% and 1.7%, respectively, over April 2024. On average, 109,900 passengers disembarked per day during the month, an 8.3% rise compared to the daily average of 101,500 recorded in April of the previous year.
