Entrepreneurs, freelancers, and remote workers, often referred to as digital nomads, are always on the lookout for locations that offer both professional opportunities and a fulfilling lifestyle.
According to VisaGuide’s Digital Nomad Index for 2025, Spain has been recognized as the top destination for remote workers, offering a balance between work and leisure. The country stands out for its popularity among travelers, allowing digital nomads to enjoy a dynamic lifestyle while also meeting their professional needs.
The ranking system evaluates destinations based on six key factors to determine their suitability for digital nomads. Internet speed is one of the primary considerations, ensuring that remote workers can complete their tasks without disruptions. Tax policies also play a crucial role, as favorable taxation or tax-free periods can be a significant incentive for choosing a destination.
Income requirements for visa eligibility are another essential factor, as each country sets specific earning thresholds for digital nomads. The cost of living is also a major consideration, as affordability can significantly impact long-term stays. Healthcare services available in each country are assessed, as access to quality medical care is an important factor for those relocating. Lastly, a country’s tourism appeal is taken into account, as vibrant and interesting destinations tend to attract more remote workers.
Based on these criteria, the top ten destinations for digital nomads in 2025 include Spain, which ranks highest due to its tourism appeal, followed by the United Arab Emirates, known for its high-speed internet and zero-percent tax rate. Montenegro and the Bahamas take third and fourth place, while Hungary ranks fifth.
Canada, which ranks sixth with a digital nomad score of 3.43, stands out for its low income requirements. Romania follows in seventh place, offering one of the most affordable living costs among the top destinations. Portugal and Brazil take the eighth and ninth spots, recognized for their attractive tax policies, tourism appeal, and reasonable income requirements. Curacao rounds out the top ten, being one of the few destinations with similar tax advantages.
