South Asian nationals are among the groups most affected by residency application rejections in Portugal, with nearly 20% of reviewed applications reportedly refused.
Almost 34,000 foreign nationals living in Portugal could receive orders to leave the country voluntarily after the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) rejected their residence permit applications.
The Portuguese government announced the figures on Monday, highlighting the significant number of unsuccessful residency applications. South Asian immigrants are reported to be among those most affected by the decisions.
According to the reported figures, approximately two out of every ten residency applications reviewed were rejected, raising concerns about the future of thousands of immigrants currently living in Portugal.
