Zydus Lifesciences announced the acquisition of an 85.6 percent stake in France-based Amplitude Surgical. During a press conference, Sharvil Patel, Managing Director of Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., stated that this move marks the company’s entry into the global MedTech sector. Zydus MedTech currently offers interventional cardiology products.
Amplitude Surgical is recognized as a European leader in lower-limb orthopedic technologies, specializing in knee and hip prostheses designed to replace damaged or worn-out joints. Patel emphasized that this acquisition aligns with the company’s expansion in medical technologies, highlighting a commitment to quality, research and development, and manufacturing expertise.
Regarding the strategic impact of the acquisition, Patel explained that the company aims to enhance patient care by offering services beyond pharmaceuticals, including medical devices and companion diagnostics. He noted that Zydus, already established as a global pharmaceutical company, seeks to extend its reach into medical devices, leveraging Amplitude’s technological and scientific expertise.
The company is focused on high-precision medical technology products that are in global demand. Patel highlighted that Amplitude’s innovation in arthroplasty presents opportunities in lower-limb joint replacements. In addition, Zydus is actively expanding its presence in interventional cardiology through new product launches, partnerships, and strategic investments.
Beyond cardiology, the company is also focusing on the nephrology sector. Patel pointed out the significant global burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and Zydus’ strong presence in this field as one of India’s leading players. The company is establishing a state-of-the-art dialysis manufacturing facility to produce high-end membranes aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Amplitude Surgical, supported by PAI Partners through its Mid-Market Fund, has experienced substantial growth in recent years, driven by product innovation, international expansion, and investments in manufacturing and research.
