Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce an ultra-thin iPhone model, the iPhone 17 Air, set to debut next year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this device will measure just 6.25mm in thickness, making it the slimmest iPhone ever. For comparison, the iPhone 6, released in 2014, held the previous record at 6.9mm thick.
Despite its sleek design, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with a premium price tag, surpassing that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the top-tier model for 2025. However, the higher cost will not translate to improved hardware specifications.
The iPhone 17 Air will run on Apple’s A19 chip, produced using TSMC’s advanced N3P 3nm process. While capable, this chip is positioned below the A19 Pro processor found in the Pro models. The device will also feature a 6.6-inch display, smaller than the 6.9-inch screen of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
On the camera front, the iPhone 17 Air will include a single rear lens, relying on advanced computational photography to deliver high-quality images—a strategy similar to Google’s Pixel phones. The device will be equipped with 8GB of RAM to support Apple’s AI-driven features.
The phone’s slim profile is made possible by integrating Apple’s custom-designed 5G modem, first introduced with the iPhone SE 4. This new modem replaces Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip, allowing Apple to maximize internal space for the ultra-thin design.
