As preparations intensify for what’s anticipated to be one of the most significant climate gatherings of the decade, Azerbaijan has launched a dedicated online platform to facilitate visa processing for COP29 attendees. This event will bring together leaders, scientists, negotiators, and activists from nearly 200 countries to focus on global climate priorities.
The new visa portal, was developed in partnership with the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan. It is part of the ASAN Visa system and specifically designed to streamline special entry permits for those participating in COP29.
Accessible around the clock, the platform supports 11 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian. The application process is fully digital and paperless, reflecting the environmental goals of the summit. Applicants must be officially registered via the UNFCCC Online Registration System and hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond their planned entry date into Azerbaijan. They can either apply using the visa link in their UNFCCC confirmation email or through Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
There is no fee for the COP29 Special Visa, and applications are typically processed within three business days. Once approved, applicants will receive a confirmation email and can download their visa directly from the portal. The visa permits a single-entry stay of up to 30 days. Those needing to exit and re-enter for events like pre-sessional meetings must reapply using their UNFCCC registration details.
Anyone planning to remain in Azerbaijan for longer than 30 days must register their place of residence with the local migration service. Citizens from countries that already enjoy visa-free access to Azerbaijan do not need to apply for the COP29 Special Visa but are still required to register with migration authorities for extended stays.
Due to the expected volume of attendees, early visa applications are strongly recommended to avoid any delays or disruptions. Azerbaijan is aiming to make this global event smooth, welcoming, and accessible, ensuring participants can focus entirely on the vital climate discussions ahead.
