The U.S. Embassy in India issued a warning on social media against illegal entry into the United States. The post featured a video of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem delivering a firm message that those attempting to enter the country illegally should reconsider. Noem emphasized that President Trump aims to send a clear signal that individuals who break immigration laws will be tracked down and removed.
She further stated that those who attempt illegal entry will be caught, deported, and barred from returning. However, she noted that individuals who follow legal procedures will have opportunities in the country, while those who violate the law will face consequences.
Reports indicate that the Trump administration has implemented multiple strict immigration policies. These measures include suspending asylum requests for those crossing the southern border, deploying military personnel to deter migrants, conducting highly publicized deportation flights, and pressuring Latin American governments to strengthen border controls.
Recent statistics show a significant decline in illegal crossings. In February, U.S. Border Patrol arrested 8,347 individuals attempting to cross the border unlawfully, a sharp decrease from the more than 225,000 arrests recorded in December 2023. The report also highlighted that in December 2020, under President Biden, Border Patrol detained 47,330 migrants, with an average of 1,527 arrests per day. If the downward trend continues, experts suggest that migrant apprehensions in the U.S. could reach their lowest levels since 1967.
The Trump administration has also promoted voluntary departures for undocumented migrants through the updated CBP Home app, an extension of the CBP One app. This initiative encourages individuals to leave the country willingly instead of facing arrest or detention. Recently, Indian doctoral student Ranjani Srinivasan left the U.S. after her visa was revoked due to her involvement in pro-Palestinian protests. The U.S. Department of State confirmed her departure on March 11, 2025, facilitated by the CBP Home app. Noem also acknowledged the event, linking it to broader efforts to enforce immigration policies.
