The government has introduced a support scheme to assist in rebuilding private residences affected by recent rural wildfires. According to Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, the plan includes full financial coverage of reconstruction costs up to €250,000. For any amount above that threshold, 85% will be subsidized by the state.
This initiative is part of a broader legislative framework developed by the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, aimed at establishing long-term guidelines for handling similar emergency situations. Referred to as a “framework law,” the measure sets a legal basis for disaster response and recovery. However, no specific timeline has been given for when the policy will be implemented, nor has it been clarified whether it will apply retroactively.
