The University of California, Davis is offering a competitive summer research opportunity for U.S. medical students interested in ophthalmology and vision science. Participants will receive mentorship, hands-on research experience, and financial support to further their studies in this specialized field.
Selected students will be awarded a $2,500 stipend to support at least eight weeks of summer research in vision sciences. In addition, a $1,200 travel grant is available to assist with expenses related to presenting findings at a national ophthalmology conference. Scholars will also have the opportunity to present their research at a dedicated symposium hosted by the UC Davis Eye Center in the fall, with virtual participation available for those outside the university.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school and demonstrate a strong interest in ophthalmology. Those already receiving research funding through UC Davis during the summer quarter are not eligible, and previous recipients of this scholarship cannot apply again. Students from other institutions are encouraged to apply but must coordinate fund transfers, housing, and transportation arrangements independently.
Throughout the program, participants will work closely with faculty mentors, contributing to meaningful research while expanding their knowledge in the field. This experience is designed to provide valuable insights and professional growth opportunities for students considering a future in ophthalmology. At the end of the program, all scholars will present their research findings at a symposium, sharing their contributions with the academic community.
Applications are open until March 15, 2025. More details, including the application form, can be found at the provided link.
