At the signing, Marko Đurić emphasized that Serbia’s online visa application system and the “Welcome to Serbia” portal for foreigners have been operational since February of the previous year, marking a significant step in modernizing the Ministry’s services. He confirmed that a fully digital system for issuing electronic visas would soon be introduced.
Serbia is approaching a major advancement in consular services, made possible through cooperation between the Ministry and relevant offices. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also become the first institution authorized to use a digital seal, enhancing the security and legitimacy of electronically issued documents.
The development of state data centers in Belgrade and Kragujevac plays a crucial role in ensuring data protection and strengthening national cybersecurity, which remains a key priority.
Mihail Jovanović noted that the signed protocol marks the beginning of active cooperation, starting with the transfer of the visa information system to the state data center. Further efforts will focus on upgrading and expanding electronic services for foreigners interested in living or working in Serbia.
The Portal for Foreigners has already been widely used, processing nearly 44,000 applications for single temporary residence and work permits. Ahead of the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade, improvements are being made to facilitate electronic visa applications for participants attending the event.
While many travelers can visit Serbia visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days, certain nationalities still require a visa. This primarily applies to travelers from parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, including Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Qatar, Pakistan, and India. These applicants must obtain a visa through Serbian embassies or consulates before traveling.
In contrast, citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and Russia can enter Serbia without a visa for short-term tourist or business visits. Since entry regulations may change, travelers are advised to verify visa requirements through the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or their nearest Serbian diplomatic mission.
