Thailand has just made big changes to its Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa in February 2025, making it easier for global citizens, skilled professionals, and their families to live and work in the country. These updates reduce income and work experience requirements while expanding family benefits, reinforcing Thailand’s goal of becoming a top destination for international talent and investment.

What’s New?
1. Wealthy Global Citizens – No More Income Requirement
- Before: Needed an income of USD 80,000 per year for two years.
- Now: No income requirement!
- New Requirement: You must invest at least USD 500,000 in Thailand and have worldwide assets worth USD 1 million or more.
2. Highly-Skilled Professionals – Work Experience Not Required
- Before: Needed five years of relevant work experience.
- Now: No work experience required!
- Who Qualifies: Professors in higher and vocational education across all fields in targeted industries.
3. Remote Workers – Easier Employer Requirements
- Before: Employer’s revenue had to be USD 150 million over the past three years.
- Now: Revenue threshold reduced to USD 50 million.
- Bonus: Wholly-owned subsidiaries now qualify, and work experience requirements are removed.
4. Family Benefits – More Relatives Can Join You
- Before: Only spouses and children under 20 were allowed, with a limit of four dependents.
- Now: Parents and all legal dependents can join, with no limit on the number of dependents.
5. Wealthy Pensioners – Same Requirements Stay
- Must be 50 years or older.
- Must have passive income of at least USD 80,000 per year, or
- USD 40,000 per year plus a USD 250,000 Thai investment.
Health Insurance & Savings Requirement (Unchanged for 2025)
All LTR visa holders must have one of the following:
✅ Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 for 10 months, OR
✅ Thai social security, OR
✅ Savings of USD 100,000 (plus USD 25,000 per dependent).
