Gralheira, situated in Serra do Montemuro within the municipality of Cinfães, Viseu district, is known as one of Portugal’s coldest villages.
At an elevation of around 1,130 meters, it ranks as the third-highest village in the country, a factor that greatly influences its low temperatures, particularly in winter. The season is marked by harsh conditions, with average January temperatures reaching a minimum of -3.0°C and a maximum of 7.3°C, while the real feel can drop to -7.0°C. These frigid temperatures make Gralheira even colder than Guarda, the highest city in Portugal.
