Serbia has introduced a significant update to its D Visa policy, aimed at foreign nationals seeking entry for medical treatment or long-term social care services. The revised regulations are designed to improve transparency and ensure that applicants are supported by accredited institutions, with clear documentation requirements to simplify the process.
The updated policy outlines two distinct categories under which individuals can apply for a D Visa: one for hospital-based medical treatment and another for social welfare and assisted living care. These changes support Serbia’s emerging role as a destination for affordable, high-quality healthcare and long-term care services.
Applicants seeking medical treatment in Serbian healthcare facilities must submit a completed D visa application, a valid passport (issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 90 days beyond the stay), a recent photo, proof of payment for the visa fee, and an official invitation letter from a registered medical institution. In addition, applicants are required to show proof of valid health insurance, financial resources to support their stay, the medical institution’s registration certificate, and a medical letter confirming the necessity and location of treatment.
For those applying for long-term social care in licensed institutions, the required documentation is similar. Applicants must also provide an accommodation confirmation from the care facility, the institution’s registration certificate, and a valid work license issued by Serbian social protection authorities. These facilities must be officially registered and licensed in Serbia to meet the new standards.
This policy primarily benefits international patients undergoing long-term medical treatments such as surgeries, rehabilitation, or cancer care, as well as elderly individuals or those with chronic conditions who are planning to reside in certified care homes. Additionally, family members or legal guardians accompanying patients on long-stay visas are included under these provisions.
