Australia Announces Second Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) – February 2025 Update
Australia has officially announced updates to its Second Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) in February 2025, providing an exciting opportunity for young travelers to extend their stay in the country. This visa allows eligible individuals to live, work, and travel in Australia for an additional 12 months after completing the requirements of their first Working Holiday Visa.
Key Updates and Changes
The Australian government has made several key modifications to the Subclass 417 visa, ensuring better regulation and streamlined application processes:
- Automatic Visa Cancellation Rule
If a Working Holiday Visa holder applies for another visa (such as an eVisitor visa (Subclass 651) or Transit visa (Subclass 771)), their existing Working Holiday Visa will be automatically canceled. This means they could lose their work rights and might be ineligible for another Working Holiday Visa. - Strict Location Declaration Requirement
Applicants must correctly declare their current location at the time of application. Providing false information may lead to visa rejection. - Processing Time Delays
Due to an increase in applications, processing times may be longer than usual. The government advises applicants to apply early and wait for visa approval before making any travel plans.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Second Working Holiday Visa, applicants must meet the following requirements:
✅ Age Limit: 18 to 30 years (or 35 for citizens of Canada, France, and Ireland).
✅ Previous Visa Requirement: Must have held a First Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417).
✅ Specified Work Requirement: Applicants must complete at least three months of specified work in regional Australia. Eligible industries include agriculture, construction, hospitality, and tourism.
