A senior Pakistani diplomat was denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa and necessary travel documents, according to a report by The News, a Pakistani media outlet. KK Wagan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan, was stopped by US immigration authorities upon his arrival in Los Angeles and subsequently deported.
Citing an unnamed official from Pakistan’s foreign ministry, the report stated that the diplomat faced an “immigration objection.” Mr. Wagan, an experienced diplomat, was traveling to Los Angeles for personal reasons. Although he had a valid US visa, immigration officials flagged concerns related to diplomatic protocol.
According to diplomatic sources, US authorities cited “controversial visa references” as a reason for stopping him, though the specifics remain unclear. Following this, he was asked to return to his point of departure.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior officials have been informed of the situation. Mr. Wagan is expected to be called to Islamabad to provide an explanation regarding the incident.
